apple blackcurrant cider

4 c. (1 L) unsweetened apple cider
2 tbsp. (30 mL) blackcurrant syrup*
1 tsp. (5 mL) whole cloves
1 tsp. (5 mL) whole allspice
2 large cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp. (15 mL) brown sugar, or to taste
1 tbsp. (15 mL) grated orange peel
* We used Ribena Concentrate.

1. In a saucepan, combine all ingredients; simmer over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes.

2. Strain hot cider and serve in mugs with cinnamon sticks and orange peel for garnish.

3. Note: The longer the cider simmers, the stronger the flavour of the spices.

Makes 6 servings.

96 calories, 0.3 grams protein, 24 grams carbohydrates, 0.4 grams of fat per serving.

It is believed that allspice can aid digestion and cinnamon can relieve bloating and gas. Enjoy this wonderfully soothing drink with friends.
