What is Bubble - Packing?
The bubble- packing system is designed to eliminate confusion and allow you to keep track of your medications. The capsules and tablets are organized into 4 different time slots (morning, noon, evening and bedtime) and placed into blisters on a card. Each card can hold a seven day supply of medications. When it is time to take your medications, simply punch out the contents of the blister. You no longer have to worry what medications you need to take and when to take them. If you do not remember taking a dose, simply check the card to see if you have missed any doses.

Why Bubble - Packing?
The bubble- packing system helps a patient take their medications in the proper way. Patient non- compliance is a major concern accounting for:

• up to 10% of all hospital admissions
• approximately 25% of all hospital
  admissions among the elderly
• approximately 23% of all nursing home
  admissions
  

What are some limitations of
Bubble - Packing?
The bubble - packing system is ideal for medications that need to be taken on a regular basis. It will not work for medications that the doctor has prescribed to be taken only as needed. In addition, this system will not work with liquids or refrigerated items. Also it will not remind you to use other medications such as inhalers, eye drops, injections, etc…

Who might benefit from our program?
It is very important that the medication your physician prescribes is taken precisely as directed. Many of us today are on more than one medication, either prescription or over-the-counter, and live very active and busy lives. Sometimes we forget to take our medications and we find ourselves asking the question, "have I taken my pills today?" If you find yourself trying to answer this regularly, then you might benefit from our bubble pack
program.

The following people may benefit from our program:

• Patients with a complicated medication regimen (4 or more medications)
• Patients with certain mental or physical conditions (Alzheimer, visual impairment etc…)
• Patients with a history of compliance problems. This system is filled, labelled and sealed in the pharmacy
• Patients who are under the care of a caregiver (nurse, family etc…)
• People who live busy lives

To help us determine if you may benefit from this program, please pick up a bubble-pack brochure at your local Save-On-Foods and complete the consent form . As well, we can contact your physician or family to discuss the merits of this program.
