a
change of pace with pork
Tired
of the same meat routine day in and day out? Why not liven
up your week by including pork? Although pork was formerly
regarded as a higher fat meat, new and improved methods of
breeding, feeding and raising pigs have dramatically reduced
its fat content. In fact, compared to a decade ago, pork has
30% less fat and 14% fewer calories.
In
addition to being lower in fat, pork is an excellent source
of B vitamins. These nutrients play a key role in the body's
conversion of carbohydrates into energy and help keep your
heart and nervous system in top form. A 3½ ounce pork loin
cut contains approximately 190 calories and 7 grams of fat.
But keep in mind that not all cuts are created equally. Opt
for the leaner cuts of pork such as the loin, and reserve
bacon, sausage and spareribs for occasional treats.
